One of the leading bakeries in Pakistan with a hundred branches in Lahore only, the Gourmet group of companies is aiming to further diversify its business. From a simple bakery to becoming a household name in furniture, marriage halls and dairy products, Gourmet is now stepping into the media industry as it plans to launch its own TV channel in Pakistan. The upcoming channel is due to launch after Ramadan ends.
FROM JAAG TV TO GOURMET NEWS NETWORK
The suggested name of the new television channel is Gourmet News Network. Back in 2016 Gourmet bought a not so popular television channel Jaag Tv for Rs. 1.5 billion. The company is now aiming to revamp the Jaag Tv channel. As of now the new channel will only focus on breaking news and current affairs.
For the expertise of their channel they have hired Amir Mir, editor and editor investigations at The News International. He will be the Chief Operating Officer for the Gourmet News Channel.
MASTER OF ALL TRADES
Gourmet Company has 12% share in Silk Bank as well as various other ventures such as its own magazine, its own line of soft drinks and even its own pharmacy brand. Their chain of bakeries is limited to Punjab only.
Gourmet is not the only company which has decided to diversify its business. The Hum TV network, which is a very popular drama channel in Pakistan, has also decided to launch its very own online grocery store. Other media groups such as The Express News co-own McDonald’s Pakistan as well as Colgate-Palmolive Pakistan.
The test transmission of Gourmet’s television channel expected to start after Ramadan.
