China’s Xiaomi recently announced new sports footwear, fitted with smart technology. The “90 Minutes Ultra Smart Sportswear” are the company’s first smart shoes, and are powered by Intel’s Curie Module – a button-sized chip that keeps a log of the wearer’s fitness data in real-time.
The smart shoes from Xiaomi, developed by Shanghai-based Runmi Technology Co. Ltd, are specially designed for professional athletes. The Smart Sportswear’s foam-like material offers comfort and the sole is packed with arch support and anti-skid feature. Other features include antibacterial removable insoles, air cushion, and 60-day battery life. Thanks to the Intel Curie chip, the Xiaomi smart shoes can detect and track movements including walking, running and climbing, and store data such as distance covered, speed, calories lost, etc.
As of now, the smart shoes come in four colour choices: Black and Surf Blue for men and Black and Pink for women. Further, there’s a special luminous Blue edition for those who prefer late evening or early morning runs and want themselves to be visible to the passing motorists and drivers.
